IAESTE
is an independent(non-political, non-governmental) organization. It
was founded in 1948 and IAESTE's three main goals are as follows:
- The association
is an organization for the exchange of students at
institutions of higher education wishing to obtain technical
experience abroad relative to their studies in the broadest
sense.
- It shall promote
international understanding and good will amongst the students
of all nations, irrespective of race, colour, creed or gender.
- The association
operates an exchange programme for the benefits of students,
academic institutions, industrial and other
organizations offering traineeships.
The IAESTE
Structure
The Association is
a confederation of National Committees. Each one is responsible
for the administration of the exchange in its own country.
Membership is given after the establishment of a National
Committee in accordance with the statutes of IAESTE, together with
a responsible permanent secretariat.
There are two types
of IAESTE countries, student and professor administrated. We hope
to start a new student run committee, such as in e.g. Norway,
Croatia, Germany and Greece.
The
International Exchange
The exchange of
offers of training is conducted at the annual General Conference.
Prior to the conference, each member country collects offers from
firms willing to receive students from abroad for a training
period related to the student's study. The offering companies or
organizations are expected to pay students a wage sufficient to
cover their cost of living during the actual training periods.
These offers are
exchanged with other members one by one at the General
Conference. Through their affiliated universities and colleges,
national secretariats select qualified students according to
employer's requirements as stated on the training offers.
Receiving countries
arrange the necessary permits, lodging, and - in many cases -
social and cultural programs during the training period.
Eligibility
Participation in
the IAESTE exchange is open to all students attending courses at
universities, institutes of technology and similar institutions of
higher education.
Most Traineeships
take place during major vacations and last for 8-12 weeks, some
even up
to a year and a
half. The majority of training offers are made to students of
Engineering and Technology, who also represent the majority of the
applicants. Technical experience is used in its broadest sense by
IAESTE and is not restricted to industrial disciplines.
Advantages of
the Organization
- Universities can
exchange students from different countries specially for
research purposes and this shall allow the university to
identify different technologies, cultures and ideas to uplift
the current educational system.
- Students will be
more preferred entering universities, having an IAESTE
involvement.
- Industries can
recruit students from different countries who have different
knowledge, which can be helpful to identify various means of
improvement.
- Industry can
also give the opportunity to the local students to go abroad
and get new experiences that will be helpful when they are
applied in the country.
- Students have
opportunity to go abroad for the industrial training and
expose to different technologies; management styles, cultures
and achieve more knowledge.
- Foreign
experience may help the students to apply for good jobs
when they are graduated.
How to
